Heritage Christian Stables

Heritage Christian Stables is a therapeutic riding program for children and adults, accredited by PATH Intl. (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International). With the assistance of highly skilled riding instructors and hundreds of dedicated volunteers, this program provides an exciting opportunity for physical, mental, emotional and spiritual growth.

Benefits of Riding

Therapeutic riding is a holistic experience, impacting a person's physical, emotional, spiritual and mental well-being. Physically, the rhythmic motion of a horse's gait mimics the way humans walk, offering disabled riders the freedom to move without the help of a wheelchair, often for the first time.

Additionally, therapeutic horseback riding has been shown to improve muscle tone, balance, posture, coordination, and motor development. Psychologically, it's empowering for the rider to be able to work alongside a 1,000-pound animal with a few commands and a tug on the reins. The experience helps increase the rider's confidence, self-esteem, and independence.

Volunteer opportunities available

Volunteer positions include horse leaders, which are responsible for the horse during the lessons, helping to lead the horse and rider around the ring. Side walkers work with the rider during the lesson, providing support as needed.

Lessons are offered Monday through Friday at various times throughout each day and evening. Volunteers need to commit to a weekly schedule for a 12-week period and are required to attend training and orientation.
